CPR Training by Bluffton Township Fire District

To ensure effective and proper social distancing, classes will be limited to eight (8) personnel per session.

The Bluffton Township Fire District provides training to individuals and local businesses in a wide variety of fire and life safety subjects. BTFD is most asked to assist individuals or businesses with becoming CPR certified, either to meet regulations required for that company or merely for the benefit of its employees. To ensure that we can best meet the needs of our community, BTFD offers a variety of different certification level courses that follow American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.

Upon completion of all courses, with the exception to Friends and Family, participants will receive a certification card from the AHA. AHA certification cards will be good for two (2) years, post-training date, and will certify that participants have successfully completed an AHA course.

Here is a list of the classes available:

WHAT IS CPR?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a combination of rescue breathing and chest compressions delivered to victims thought to be in cardiac arrest. When cardiac arrest occurs, the heart stops pumping blood to the brain, heart, and body. However, CPR can support a small amount of blood flow throughout the body to “buy time” until normal heart function may be restored.

According to the American Heart Association, cardiac arrest occurs when there is a malfunction in the heart’s electrical system. These malfunctions are generally caused by abnormal heart rhythms, such as ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. A victim in cardiac arrest requires a quick response with CPR and in some cases defibration. Defibrillation is the delivery of an electrical shock to the heart, in an attempt to return the heart to a normal rhythm. However, defibrillation is not effective for all forms of cardiac arrest.
